About Us

After years of work in the field, founder Robert Ballard, realized that landscaping could be more than surface beauty but a deeply embedded ecological transformation. It all started with a walk in the woods when he quite literally came face to face with the need for a change in how we care for the earth. After tripping over a tree root, this horticulturalist with over 40 years of experience suddenly found himself staring at a plant he had never seen before. Seeds of curiosity were embedded as he gently took a sample of the specimen and raced home. Little did he know, years of horticultural expertise were about to be uprooted as he began to unearth a whole new world of ecology, a world we had long since forgotten, and a world nature still longs for– native plants.

Soon, these seeds blossomed into passion as Robert became consumed with the ecological relationships between all of nature and our responsibility to care for and heal these connections. But how do we heal generations of neglect and depletion? By reintegrating the original design and balance the earth had. Native plants were the key to this, but the problem was that finding native species was nearly impossible. His solution? Grow them himself.

In 2019, Camp Creek Native Plants launched as Mississippi’s first greenhouse primarily focused on native species. In the last four years, Camp Creek has grown into a facility with three blossoming greenhouses, a storefront, and ever growing online business. And while business is bustling, Camp Creek remains a family owned and operated company as Robert was joined in this mission by his wife, Nannette, and youngest son, Andrew. Rooted in the belief that change begins in our own backyards, Camp Creek works diligently to educate the surrounding community, host teaching seminars, and plant that same seed that started it all in the hearts of our customers. We’re restoring His creation one yard at a time.
