Black-eyed Susan 'Goldsturm' - Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii
-
Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii, common name Black-eyed Susan, is a native biennial or perennial that found its way into American gardens many years ago. Goldsturm is a cultivar of Black-eyed Susan with a more compact size and larger flowers. This easily grown native tolerates most any soil conditions as long as at least half a day of full sunlight is available. The bright yellow bloom stands on long, leafless stems making them an excellent cut flower choice. Goldsturm is a great plant for pollinators and at the end of the season will offer an abundance of seed for birds. Plant Black-eyed-Susan in cottage or pollinator gardens along with native grasses and coneflowers.

I'm a retired Cooperative Extension agent who has grown Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' in different residences for over 30 years. It's a great cultivar but it does not live up to the common "summer to fall bloom" hyperbole I've been seeing l. Sometimes hybridized plants bloom themselves into an early bedtime. This is why I am so happy to find your selling Rudbeckia fulgida var. fulgida, the original that blooms into October!
