Heartleaf Ginger - Asarum arifolium
Asarum arifolium, Heartleaf Wild Ginger, is an easy to grow woodland ground cover that will spread slowly by underground rhizomes and is a must for the shade garden. The arrow-headed-shaped, anise-scented leaves are shiny dark green, highlighted by silver veining. In early spring, 8″ tall x 1″ wide evergreen clumps adorned with dark purple flowers appear at the base. Normally used as a shade loving groundcover, Wild Ginger combines well with native ferns, Jack-in-the-pulpit, and Trillium.
