Chasmanthium latifolium, commonly Inland Sea Oats, is an upright, clump forming ornamental grass, and is native to much of the Eastern and Southeastern United. States. Tolerant of some poor soils, Northern Sea Oats prefers a medium to wet, well drained soil in full sun to part shade. It is one of the more shade tolerant of our native grasses. Typically growing 2 to 5’ in height, the most distinguishing characteristic of this grass may be its terminal clusters of drooping seed heads. Seed heads appear in the fall of the year and are persistent. This grass provides almost year round interest in a border or a native plant garden.
