Swamp Mallow - Hibiscus moscheutos
Hibiscus moscheutos, commonly known as Swamp Mallow or Swamp Rose Mallow, is a perennial native to wetlands and marshy areas of eastern North America. It is noted for its large, showy flowers that can reach up to 6-12 inches in diameter. These flowers feature shades of pink, white, or red with a prominent central staminal column. Swamp Mallow blooms from mid-summer to early fall, attracting pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soils, making it ideal for rain gardens, pond edges, and wetland restoration projects. Growing 3-6 feet tall, it forms clumps of lobed leaves that add texture and vertical interest to garden landscapes. Swamp Mallow is a valuable addition to native plant gardens, providing both ornamental beauty and ecological benefits.
