Dutchman’s Pipe Vine, Aristolochia tomentosa, is a a fast growing, deciduous vine native to the Eastern United States. Naturally found in moist woods and alongside stream banks, the vine prefers moist soils in full sun to part shade. A vigorous grower, Dutchman’s Pipe Vine grows up to 30 feet long. Size can be controlled by pruning in late winter. Small, pipe-shaped flowers bloom in late spring. An excellent plant for butterfly gardens, Dutchman’s Pipe Vine is the host plant for the Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly. Also makes an excellent screening plant for fences and patios. Needs some support on which to grow.
