Description
Chelone glabra, commonly known as Turtlehead for the shape of its blooms, is a flowering herbaceous perennial, whose white flowers bloom August – October. Attractive to many butterflies and hummingbirds, it is the host plant for the rare Baltimore Checkerspot, as well as Buckeye butterflies. Specimens prefer moist, sunny borders and open, moist woodlands; in sunny areas it prefers a good composted leaf mulch. Plant height reaches 2 – 3′ with 1.5 – 2.5′ width.
