Tall Ironweed,Vernonia gigantea, is an attractive native wildflower that grows easily in average to moist soils in full sun to part shade. The plant commonly grows in the wild in low woods, along streams, and in moist prairies. Growing up to ten feet tall, Tall Ironweed creates a dramatic effect in wildflower gardens as a specimen or backdrop. Bright purple flowers appear August to September and are highly attractive to butterflies.
