Ilex Verticillata is a medium-sized, deciduous shrub native to moist areas of Eastern North America. A care-free and adaptable plant, Winterberry Holly is easily grown in average soils with average moisture levels. Winterberry is also a useful plant for wet areas of the landscape, tolerating boggy conditions. Insignificant white flowers appear in the spring, providing a valuable nectar source for honey bees. Bright red berries follow in the fall if flowers are pollinated. Wintberry Hollies require pollination by a separate male plant. Berries persist throughout the winter and provide an excellent food source for birds. Plants are not sexed.
